A 900-year-old garden in the heart of London.
Obscura Day is an Atlas Obscura tradition where the whole team takes a day off to explore—whether it’s a nearby hidden gem or a distant, wondrous site. Check out the places our team visited.

I visited the St. Dunstan in the East Church Garden while spending a day in London. You can dig into the full history here, but TLDR: this garden amidst the ruins of a church is over 900 years old, survived the 1666 Great Fire of London, and was mostly destroyed by the Blitz in 1941. Since 1970, the garden has been open to the public and serves as a quiet respite from the bustling city. It’s a lovely place to read a book.
